“Luxuriant Poetry and Life Loving Campaign for the Flourishing of Culture”

“The Society of Korean Poets”(SKP), on the threshold of its 60th founding anniversary, is the representative literary society of Korea with its particular history and tradition.

The Society should be born again as the society loved by all the Korean people living in this age, communicating with them. Poets should contribute something to the age in which they live. Poets will get the new living power when living a contemporary age along with the readers in the attitude of serving to them, not in the authoritarian or reigning attitude to them.

Now is the time for SKP to set the following as its goals:

First, SKP strives to enrich the poetic emotion in an attempt to lead the era of the cultural richness as established as the nation’s goal. In order to overcome the opposition and conflicts prevalent in our society, we should extend the public campaigns such as the movements of family love and life love.
Secondly, as witnessed in the artificial intelligence AlphaGo’s match against human professional Go player, we should seek a creative role that poetry as human beings can play to keep and revive the human region which is becoming narrower day by day.
Thirdly, we should find a way to the globalization of Korean poetry. We should get the larger global audience who loves Korean poetry, which will contribute to improving national prestige along with the recent Korean Wave.
Fourthly, we strive to seek for a great union, making the members and the executive of SKP a whole, and listen attentively to our contemporaries.

We now live in an age of division and extremes. What makes them a whole is culture and art, whose representing genre is poetry.

One of the methods which help to heal the conflicts of this age is through poetry and its spiritual sublimation. SKP will make its utmost effort to maintain the dignity of poetry and the legitimacy of lyric poetry.
